Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) Project
The NCPC-SA delivered its energy efficiency services primarily through the international award-winning South African Industrial Energy Efficiency Project, or IEE Project.
Since the first implementation in 2011, the IEE Project team has assisted more than 450 large and small industrial companies to save 6.5 TWh of energy – equivalent to five years of load shedding at the 2019 level of 1.352 TWh. This translates to cumulative cost savings of R5.3 billion in these companies.
The IEE Project promotes the adoption of Energy Management Systems (ISO50001) and the Energy Systems Optimisation approach in industrial and selected commercial sectors.
This year marks the official end of the project whose success in South Africa was supported by funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and delivered in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
