12 & 13 April – Online Training on the Master Planning of Eco-Industrial Parks

The National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) invites industrial park and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) stakeholders to online training on master plans for Eco-Industrial Parks (EIPs).

A master plan is a comprehensive document that guides the development of an industrial park. A master plan needs to integrate with urban/regional plans to ensure efficient integration, continuity with infrastructure and utility services. Master plans for industrial parks in South Africa are often out of date, not fully developed or in some cases unavailable. This poses significant challenges and risks to the industrial park and its stakeholders (e.g. tenant companies, communities).

As an initiative of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP), the NCPC-SA in partnership with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will host training sessions to unpack how Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) approaches can strengthen the development of industrial park master plans. GEIPP supports the transformation of South African traditional industrial parks to EIPs through several interventions including training.

Objectives and benefits of the training

  • Learn about the basics of industrial park master planning.
  • Better understand the current status, opportunities and challenges of industrial park concept and master planning in South Africa.
  • Engage with other industrial parks to exchange experiences and learnings on master planning.
  • Learn how the eco-industrial parks approach can bring concrete business opportunities, economic savings and enhanced competitiveness to master plans of industrial parks.
  • Get to know resources, tools and (inter)national good practices available to support the development and implementation of master plans and the implementation of EIP approaches.

  • Government authorities involved in the planning and operation of industrial parks and SEZs
