The National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) in collaboration with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) invites you to join the Gauteng Industrial Symbiosis Programme (GISP) through the Business Opportunity Workshop.
The Gauteng Industrial Symbiosis Programme
Over the past 8 years, the National Cleaner Production Center South Africa, a programme of the Department of Trade Industry and Competition (the dtic) in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) have been implementing the Gauteng Industrial Symbiosis (GISP) to promote and facilitate the implementation of identified waste synergy opportunities to achieve resource efficiency and diversion of waste from landfill.
The programme drives industrial symbiosis awareness across the manufacturing sectors in the province to embed the industrial symbiosis application/practices for GHG emissions reduction.
What is Industrial Symbiosis?
Industrial Symbiosis (IS) is a resource-efficient approach, where unused or residual resources (material, energy, water, waste, assets, and logistics) of one company are used by another. The NCPC-SA is the custodian of Industrial Symbiosis Programmes in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
How does it work?
Industrial Symbiosis uses a unique facilitation approach to rapidly match member companies’ underutilized resources with those who can utilize them. The programme actively supports its members to realise business opportunities or “synergies”.
Who should attend?
The workshop is aimed at representatives from any company with residual waste or resources plus,
- Managers of industrial facilities
- Government and municipal officials working in the energy and waste sections
- Heavy Emitting Mining industries personnel
- Construction and environmental companies
- Waste/recycling companies and Waste Entrepreneurs
- Science and technology labs and educational institutions (e.g., universities)
