30 August 2023 – Green Finance Workshop for SMEs in the Textile Sector
The National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) in collaboration with the Centre for African Resource Efficiency and Sustainability (CARES) invites small and medium companies (SMEs) in the Textile sector to a Green Finance workshop on 30 August 2023.
The event will facilitate access to funding mechanisms and incentives that support the implementation of resource efficient and cleaner production, circular economy and renewable energy projects. The workshop will be presented by financiers from renowned commercial banks, development institutions and government programmes who will unpack available finance options for companies and the requirements they need to meet to access the funds.
The workshop is presented as part of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) project: Innovative Business Practices and Economic Models in the Textile Value Chain (InTex) Project funded by the European Union (EU).
Project Background
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in collaboration with the National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) and the Centre for African Resource Efficiency and Sustainability (CARES) have been implementing a three-year project funded by the European Union (EU): Innovative Business Practices and Economic Models in the Textile Value Chain (InTex).
The project has five components. Two components have global reach and three components focus on national implementation in three countries in Africa where textile is a key economic sector.
InTex Project Aims to:
- Spearhead the dissemination of green financing at national level.
- Conduct awareness raising events, trainings, and campaigns in collaboration with partners, aiming to strengthen SMEs’ capacity on the application of circularity and eco-innovation and to initiate the implementation of innovative sustainable business models in SMEs by the end of the project.
- Encourage gender balance, and gender disaggregated data to be collected.
- To support and upscale the dissemination of knowledge products on green financing and enter partnerships with national or regional institutions.
- Engage SC members and project partners in these events, so that they can act as multipliers when the project ends.Support on capacity and infrastructure for awareness raising, communication channels and social media platforms, including network database and website, and government and partner linkages to strengthen the SME capacity.
