25 May 2026 – Invitation to GEMINI-SA Project Validation Workshop

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), in collaboration with the National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA), cordially invites you to attend the validation workshop of the Global Elimination of Mercury in Non-ferrous Metals Initiative (GEMINI).

The purpose of the workshop is to validate the findings of six baseline assessment outcomes and consolidate stakeholder inputs prior to transitioning into the full project implementation phase.

Key workshop discussion points:

  • Provide a progress update on the GEMINI Preparatory Phase Project
  • Present and validate the baseline assessment findings and reports
  • Confirm the national mercury emissions baseline and inventory
  • Validate the facility selection methodology and priority sites
  • Obtain stakeholder inputs on the implementation strategy and project components
  • Ensure alignment among stakeholders on the next phase of the GEMINI-SA project
  • Establish an inclusive knowledge management platform that promotes awareness, best practice sharing, and transformative partnership.

This workshop supports the broader objective of ensuring South Africa’s effective participation in the global programme and the implementation of the robust full‑scale project for the next 5 years.
