The National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) invites large companies and consortiums to submit applications for funding for renewable energy and water efficiency projects.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) has announced the implementation of a project entitled “Strengthened adaptation capacity for a green and resilient economy in South Africa”, funded by the Government of Flanders region of the Kingdom of Belgium. Companies are invited to submit an Expression of Interest to UNIDO.

This Call for Expression of Interest (EOI) is issued to identify potential investment projects, targeting the acceleration of the climate change adaptation capacity of industries through energy-water nexus approaches in South Africa. Target sectors are medium to large scale industries along the agricultural value chain. In the case of a consortium, the members of the consortium must jointly submit the required information and must also clearly identify one of the consortium members as the lead company. Selected applicants will be eligible to receive a grant as co-financing to the implementation of the project committed 2.4 million Euro (approx. R41m) to a project aiming to strengthen the adaptation capacity for a green and resilient economy in South Africa.

The project was designed in consultation with national counterparts in South Africa, including the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) and the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic), as well as industry-facing national agencies such as the National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). The funding was approved in response to a proposal by UNIDO who will also be the international implementer of the project.
