On Thursday, 17 November 2022, the National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) celebrated their 20th birthday at a gala dinner themed, earth, water, air, and fire. The event was attended by partners, alumni, and staff whose work has culminated in the success of driving industrial efficiency since 2002.

In his message to guests, the NCPC-SA Director, Ndivhuho Raphulu gave an address to unpack the theme. His core message was that “human beings are the stewards of this earth and we have been entrusted with the work and the privilege to look after the resources of our planet for as long as we are on it.”

While the celebration wrapped up the ’20 years of industrial efficiency’ campaign that kicked off at the 5th Biennial Conference earlier this year, Raphulu emphasized that this is just the beginning of another 20 years to come. Since the NCPC-SA establishment in 2002, they have successfully assisted industry to save 6.5 terawatt hours of energy, 2 million kilolitres water and just over 1 million tonnes of materials.  The cumulated GHG mitigation is 8.3 million tonnes of CO2 equivalents.

This celebration comes at a time when the world is under pressure to futher mitigate climate change and implement a just transition. The NCPC-SA along with their partners, play a key role in ensuring that the South African industry is not left behind in going green.
