18 March 2025 – Call to join an online workshop to shape the future of the South African Circular Manufacturing Initiative

Following the online announcement by Professor Linda Godfrey, the NCPC team is thrilled to share that the Centre has been appointed to host the South African Circular Manufacturing Initiative (SACMI). To kickstart the initiative, the NCPC will be hosting a virtual workshop on Tuesday, 18 March 2025 to gain valuable input from industry and academia on how and where science, technology and innovation (STI) can accelerate a circular economy in the local manufacturing sector.

The session is an open invitation to the manufacturing industry, academia and the circular economy community of practice to join the conversation and provide valuable input on potential circular solutions in the STI focus areas of the initiative.

The South African Circular Manufacturing Initiative is an initiative of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation aimed at giving effect to Government’s STI White Paper (2019) and STI Decadal Plan (2022-2032), with a focus on modernising manufacturing through a more circular economy.
The Circular Economy STI Strategy has identified the four STI priority areas for the short- to medium-term in the manufacturing sector: resource efficiency and cleaner production; circular product design; advanced manufacturing; and remanufacturing.

The programme will include presentations from international experts on circular economy in industry, South African industry associations, manufacturing companies, universities working in the field and the CSIR.

This will be followed by a focused breakaway discussion on immediate needs, key opportunities and the prioritising of industry sectors.
SACMI represents an opportunity for industry, researchers, and policymakers to collaborate in shaping a more resilient, low-carbon, and future-fit manufacturing landscape through focused science, technology and innovation.

We invite stakeholders interested in co-creating impactful solutions to participate. Complete the registration form below to receive a link to join.
