The NCPC, supported by the CSIR Energy Centre, has developed a new expert level energy training course in Process Heating Systems Optimisation. Designed for a wide range of users, including plant utility managers and technicians, plant engineers and operations managers, as well as energy services companies, the course content is focused on complex heating and cooling systems in industrial settings.

The NCPC ran the first Process Heating end-user course in late 2024. Together with Energy Management 101, it is a pre-requisite to enrolling for the expert level training.

The expert level training course will be delivered over two intensive modules, each spanning four days later in 2025. Participants will engage in comprehensive instruction and hands-on activities designed to deepen their ability to analyse, design, optimise, and troubleshoot complex heating and cooling systems in industrial settings. The training will also focus on developing decision-making skills that promote operational excellence and long-term sustainability.

Those interested in enrolling for the course will need to pass the EM101 and Process Heating end-user courses. The NCPC will set dates for these training courses beforehand, to allow candidates who have not yet completed them an opportunity to participate.

The new programme forms part of a broader national effort to strengthen technical capacity in the field of energy efficiency and industrial decarbonisation. It aims to equip participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills in process heating and cooling technologies, which are critical to improving the performance and sustainability of South Africa’s manufacturing sector.
