NCPC has led a 24-month Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production internship programme on behalf of the Department of Tourism to develop young green economy professionals, while delivering measurable sustainability benefits for tourism facilities across the country.
While undergoing a rigorous resource efficiency training programme by the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC), a group of interns have applied their learning to identify R16.6 million of potential annual savings in national tourist sites across South Africa – and helped the conversation programmes reduce their own environmental footprints.
The resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) placed 21 engineering, environmental and science graduates at 18 South African Parks (SANParks) and South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) sites. Through expert-level training and practical workplace experience, interns developed skills in energy management, water efficiency, waste management and carbon management.
